Things you can do for International Women's Day

Today is the 102nd International Women's Day. It started with the sufferagette movement, but I believe it's still valuable today. Here's what I recommend doing for IWD:

- 2/3 of the world's illiterate people are women, and there are men out there who will shoot a 14 year old in the head to keep it that way. Be grateful for your education, however fed up of studying you are. And some good charities to donate to for this include Plan and the Malala Fund.

- An issue disproportionately affecting women in every country is rape. I really like a local Coventry charity called CRASAC. They provide very valuble legal advice and support to people who've suffered sexual violence, and have provide counselling to women and children. I wanted to also recommend people learning the truth vs myths on rape. However, I struggled to find a decent page on this. Here is the best one I could find.

- If you have a female body, learn about it! As a Biomedical Science geek, I strongly encourage awareness of women's health.
Please don't just paint things pink! Learn how to check your boobs, and what the other symptoms of breast cancer are.
Learn about other female cancers and what can be done to reduce risk (eg. the HPV vaccine)
Think about your sexual health! This includes lesbians - who are sometimes falsely told they can't get STIs.
Learn how to keep your vagina healthy (yes, really)!

International Mens Day is November 19th. I'm putting it in my diary, and looking forward to blogging for it then.
